In 2004, respondents from mainland China and Hong Kong exported US$42.9 million home security products. Respondents from Taiwan and South Korea exported US$19.5 million and US$15.2 million, respectively.

Exports contributed between 40 percent and 80 percent of mainland China and Hong Kong makers' revenue; and more than 80 percent of South Korea and Taiwan makers' revenue.

The world's CCTV digital video recorder (DVR) supply is forecast to grow by at least 37 percent in 2006 as makers in key sourcing centers — mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea — ramp up output. The aggregate shipments of surveyed makers will rise to 17.4 million units in 2006, from 12.7 million units in 2005.

CCTV cameras are among security products that have been forecast to maintain a steady growth trajectory until 2008.

Mainland China and Taiwan are increasing their presence as providers of CCTV cameras. The mainland produced at least US$100 million worth of CCTV cameras in 2004. Taiwan's share of the global market, meanwhile, was estimated to be at least 25 percent.

Mainland China is the world's fourth-biggest car producing country, and the third biggest in terms of domestic demand. In 2004, its car production is projected at 5.1 million units and actual sales may reach the 5 million mark. With such a big domestic market to serve, its car security industry segment has also grown, serving not only the domestic market but the overseas market as well.
