Some Types of Pot Magnets

Magnetic material is a kind of functional material that is necessary for basic industry and frontier science. In order to keep up with the rapid developing trend of production and application in the world, most of factories backed by theirs year's professional experience and convenient well-situated facility, continuously promotes the development and production in the field in China.

Pot magnets are strong magnets that are developed for the current industrial needs. Pot magnets position ferromagnetic items quickly and easily in the required place. Thanks to its construction, these magnet systems have only one surface of magnetic attraction. In other words, all the other sides are non-magnetic. This form of construction restricts the further spread of the magnetic field. As a result, other items or machine parts in the vicinity of the pot magnet do not become magnetized. Pot magnets retain their magnet force indefinitely. Only increase in temperature and external magnetic fields can reduce their magnetic force. They are made up of magnets (NdFeB, SmCo, AlNiCo or Hard Ferrite) and other spare parts, such as metal, plastic, rubber and other components. These magnets can produce a magnetic field on its exclusive surface. Depending on the usage, pot magnets  of different size, shape and width. The following is a simple introduction of main material types, which are used to make magnetic pots.

NdFeB pots are made of NdFeB (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) magnets, which has the high remanence, high coercive force, high-energy product and high performance/cost ratio, It can be formed into various sizes and widely used in many fields such as aviation, electronics, instruments, meters, machine, medical instrument and the like and so on. It is especially suitable for specialized engineering projects where performance and available space are key factors. Maximum operating temperatures are +60°C for the Neodymium and +150°C - +250°C for the Samarium depending on the design configuration.

Ferrite pots are made of Sintered Ferrite, which material offers a good performance from an inexpensive magnet; however, they tend to be bulky and are not always suitable where space is an important factor. The steel parts are plated & the Ferrite is inert thus corrosion is limited. Maximum operating temperature is +120 °C.

Alnico pots are strong permanent magnets with great temperature resistance and are applicable up to a temperature of 450oc. It Offer a better holding force than Ferrite systems. Normally they are housed in a steel pot having non-magnetized materials like brass or aluminium in between. The magnetic force gets reduced at high temperature however it is restored as the pot magnets get cooled in room temperature. The alnico pot magnets are available in different sizes and shapes. These magnets are primarily for gripping applications. The outer surface of the magnets can be either painted or coated with Zinc,Nickel or Chrome.

SmCo pots are made of SmCo Magnets, which needn’t to be coated because it is difficult to be eroded and oxidized. SmCo Magnet is widely used in motors, watch, transducers, instruments, positional detector, generators, radar communications, medical equipments, various magnetism spreading devices, magnetic processor, electrical engineering and magnetic derrick.
