Mainland China's relay industry hit the 1.5 billion-unit mark set by the 10th Five-Year Development two years ahead of schedule. Supply from mainland China is forecast to maintain its double-digit growth over the next two years. Production of relays will increase by 15 percent in 2004, driven by demand from home appliances, industrial equipment, communications and automotive electronics.

Demand for mainland China-made power supplies is expected to increase by 25 percent in 2005 and by 20 percent in 2006. Demand is forecast to reach at least 4 billion units in 2005, and hit over 4.8 billion units, worth some US$30 billion, by 2006.

Combined output value of PCBs from mainland China and Taiwan climbed 22.52 percent in 2004 to US$14.8 billion from US$12.08 billion in 2003. Mainland China accounted for US$7.2 billion and Taiwan, US$7.6 billion. A total of 219.97 million square meters of PCBs were produced in mainland China and Taiwan in 2004.

Global LEDs and LED displays production value is set to grow by 75 percent between 2004 and 2008,market analysts Communications Industry Researchers and iSuppli forecast. The LCD modules market in the Greater China region continues to grow at an average annual rate of 20 percent. The growing portable consumer electronics and personal computing sectors have been driving chip component production in the Greater China region. The growth of the cable and assembly industry has been spurred by demand for faster Internet connections and improved networking capabilities. Shipments of fiber-optic cables are forecast to grow from US$1.2 billion in2005 to US$4 billion by 2010, with the highest growth application coming from data centers, according to research on the high performance structured cabling system market. Shipments of coaxial cables also grew by approximately 15 percent in 2005 despite intense competition from other data transmission cables.

The battery packs segment in mainland China is projected to increase at a compounded annual growth rate of up to 15 percent between 2007 and 2009. More than 4 billion units of battery packs were produced in mainland China in 2005, including the output of Taiwan and Hong Kong companies that have manufacturing facilities in the mainland.

Global demand for batteries will increase by 6.5 percent annually from 2006 through 2008, according to the Freedonia Group. The US-based research firm predicts that mainland China will emerge as one of the world's biggest battery production bases.

Mainland China and Taiwan makers account for 60 percent of the world's supply of acoustic components, according to the China Electroacoustic Component Trade Association (CECTA).
There are 3,000 acoustic component manufacturers in mainland China. The number is forecast to reach 3,100 at the end of 2005.
