What is Enteral Syringe?

I am promoting a site about pharmacutical supplies, I just know a little for those items, and today I am just told to rank "enteral syringe". It is a bit difficult for me to understand the item, how ever I found the following FAQs, it is helpful for me.

In response to several wrong route errors at GOSH, and the NPSA alert for Oral Medicines (NPSA 2007), the trust is implementing a range of enteral syringes and nasogastric tubes which are incompatible with intravenous (IV) systems. Enteral tubes will have a male luer hub, enteral syringes will have a female luer tip. The equipment is clearly labelled as enteral use, and is colour coded in purple.

Q. Do I need to use these new syringes if my department only ever gives oral medicines?

A. Yes. All medicines and feeds that are administered enterally (into the digestive tract) must be delivered using this new equipment.  Even if you only use a syringe to deliver medicine into the patient's mouth, you need to use the new variety. It is still acceptable to administer medicines orally in a cup.

Q. What do I do if a patient is admitted with the old type of nasogastric tube insitu?

A. Use a male luer tip (IV) syringe, remembering to practice safely using the tips for correct route administration. At the next routine change, the tube should be replaced with the new (purple) type.

Q. How do I use this equipment with the feeding sets?

A. The existing feeding sets connect directly to the new nasogastric tubes. Simply unscrew and discard the red funnel connector. The clear female luer connector which remains will screw directly onto the purple male luer hub on the nasogastric tube.

Q. How do I give a medicine when the feeding set is connected?

A. Insert the male adapter firmly into the Y port. This should stay in place for the life of the set. Your enteral syringe can now connect to the Y port.

Q. What should I do if I am discharging a patient with the new type of tube?

A. To ensure a smooth transition, a small supply of syringes should be provided at discharge. Initially, patients should be provided with a copy of this guideline to ensure their next provider can order the correct equipment.
